Yeti Solar (TM) at US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon September 05 2013
Well, we just put the finishing touches on over a dozen beautiful new prototype lights for the Norwich University Solar Decathlon Delta-T-90 house. If you're unfamiliar with the Solar Decathlon, it's a competition run by the United State Department of Energy, in which universities teams from all over the world compete to build the most efficient, attractive, and environmentally friendly houses possible. It ends up being a showcase for the best design and technology, and we are very proud to see our products featured so prominently in one of the Finalist's houses.
As part of our sponsorship of the team, Yeti Solar designed, built, and installed a whole line of light fixtures using wood veneer and other unusual materials as well as our usual high-efficiency LEDs.
At the Solar Decathlon competition in Irvine, California (just south of Los Angeles) in October, the team's house will be open to the public for tours. If you are even remotely close by, I can't recommend highly enough that you take a day and tour Delta-T-90, as well as the other 19 houses in the competition.
If you like the light fixtures you see in the house and would like to own one, please fill out a card while you are there or send us an email. If enough people express interest in a light we will make a production run of it, and a portion of the profits will help fund the Norwich University team's next house. Here's a sneak preview of one of the lights:
