12V DC Battery Charging Station Complete Technical Specifications
Battery and Appliance Sizing
Batteries used with this charging station should be 12V lead-acid batteries with a capacity of at least 3 amp-hours (the charging rate would be too high for anything smaller). The maximum size battery for which this system can counteract self discharge is about 550 amp-hours.
12V DC Appliances connected to this system should generally draw less than 3 amps of current. If the appliance is only used for a few minutes a day (e.g. a gate opener), you may be able to use higher current appliances. To prevent wearing out your battery prematurely, make sure the appliance will draw less than half the battery's capacity in an average day.
